A Taste of Polonia Chicago Daytrip
Saturday, November 10, 2007
8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Travel to Chicago, the largest Polish community outside of Poland. Visit the vibrant Jackowo (jats'kovo) neighborhood which means "place of Hyacinth" in Polish. Stroll its main street featuring a deli, sausage shop, and bakery. Tour the Polish Museum of America and its gift shop after an orientation by one of their docents. The highlight of the tour will be St. Hyacinth Polish Basilica, which gives its name to the area. After a welcome and introduction from Fr. Rog, you will have time to visit this beautiful church with its many stained-glass windows and murals done by Wisconsin's Conrad Schmitt Studios. Enjoy an authentic array of traditional dishes during the included lunch buffet from The Red Apple "Czerwone Jab'tuszko" local restaurant in the Avondale neighborhood. This is sure to be a hit for anyone of Polish background or those who wish they were!
