4-Day Spring Getaway:

The Historic Brandywine River Valley Pennsylvania & Delaware

April 17-20, 2012

Never heard of the Brandywine River Valley? Well, how it got its name has many versions, but its historical significance in the development of the colonies in the 17th century was quite important. Join Sunflower Journeys for a spring getaway to a beautiful corner of southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware where the rolling hills and valleys are the scenic landmarks of the Brandywine River Valley.

You'll fly roundtrip non-stop from Milwaukee to Philadelphia and enjoy 3-nights in the heart of the Brandywine Valley. Each day you'll visit some of the most beautiful and historic sites:

Winterthur, the 175-room childhood home of Francis du Pont, only son of Henry du Pont. This is the premier museum of American decorative arts. Nemours, the former 300 acre estate of Alfred du Pont is named after the du Pont ancestral home in north central France, and is an excellent example of Louis XV French chateau. Enjoy a narrated tram tour of Longwood Gardens, a mecca for garden lovers worldwide, with more than 1,000 landscaped acres and 20 indoor gardens and conservatory, cafe and gift shop. Brandywine River Museum, affectionately known as the Wyeth museum for the paintings of three generations of Wyeths. The Brandywine Battlefield at Chadds Ford, where George Washington's continental troops along with Marquis de Lafayette engaged in battle with British General Howe trying to advance on the capital of Philadelphia. Hagley Museum, the original home and french garden of E. I. Du Pont and the mills that produced the gunpowder which gave rise to the Du Pont fortunes. And, oh yes, we thought a tour of the QVC, home shopping studios would be fun too!
