Come To Your Senses at The Morton Arboretum,
Mayslake Peabody Estate
& Lunch - Illinois Daytrip
Saturday, May 26, 2012 8:30 AM-5:00 PM "Come forth into the light of things. Let Nature be your teacher." - William Wordsworth Let your senses be uplifted as you ride aboard the Acorn Express open-air tram through the ever-changing landscapes of the Morton Arboretum in Lisle, Illinois. (Make sure you're dressed appropriately for the weather) Enjoy a light buffet lunch in the Gingko Room overlooking Meadow Lake. Of course, you'll want to check out the gift shop boutique. Just a short distance away is the former country estate and retirement home of Francis S. Peabody, Chicago businessman and political activist. Known as "Mayslake Farms," the Tudor Mansion and estate was sold to the Franciscan Order of Friars Minor after Mr. Peabody's death and used as a retreat facility. It later was acquired by the DuPage County Forest Preserve District which saved it from being torn down and sold to developers. Today the restored home, chapel and gardens are a feast for the senses and the setting for numerous weddings. The docent-guided tour will provide more details and stories about this lovely estate.
