Nova Scotia & Canada's Maritimes: Halifax, Cape Breton & Prince Edward Island

September 12-20, 2017

With its breathtaking seacoast and charming fishing villages, Nova Scotia is shaped by the sea and a varied landscape. Halifax is its largest city and provincial capital and you'll enjoy 3 nights in this vibrant city. More than 160 historic lighthouses can be found throughout the province and Peggy's Point Lighthouse is one of its most photographed. Located in the quaint fishing village of Peggy's Cove along the South Shore, this coastal region became well-known when Swissair flight 111 crashed into the bay in 1998 and the area has been a preservation area ever since. Just minutes away visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Old Town Lunenburg with its colorful waterfront.

Spend 2 nights in Charlottetown on picturesque Prince Edward Island, home of the writer Lucy Maud Montgomery who wrote a series of novels about a young orphan girl known as Anne of Green Gables. Travel along the coastal highway to the fishing village of North Rustico with its pretty red-and-white lighthouse and the 25 mile stretch of spectacular coastline in PEI National Park. In Cavendish discover the gabled house that provided the inspiration for the classic story translated into 20 languages.

Discover Cepe Breton's Ceilidh Trail rich in history and Gaelic culture and natural beauty. The Alexander Graham Bell National Site was the place "of simple beauty" that he said "outrivals them all." Spend two nights in Baddeck on the shores of the glorious Bras d'Or Lakes and the start of the Cabot Trail with its exciting coastal scenery that reminded Scottish immigrants of the highlands of Scotland.

The Bay of Fundy and Annapolis Valley region is home to some of Nova Scotia's earliest recorded history from fossils of prehistoric creatures to the legends of their first people, the Mi'kmaq, to the New World's earliest settlers. It is also known for its Acadian story, its local produce, crisp wines, lobster, Digby scallops and seafood chowder. Spend one night in this region for easy access to Halifax's Stanfield Airport.
